Paper Thickness Control in Manufacturing

 The process of controlling paper thickness is made is significantly easier with the addition of a Proportion-Air FCV and an ultrasonic sensor.

In this drawing, white water (white paper fiber and water mixture) is sprayed on a screen. An ultrasonic sensor is constantly measuring the thickness of the paper and relaying this information to the PLC or controller. The PLC then commands the FCV to flow more or flow less. The thickness of the paper is determined by the flow of the FCV.

Typically, 8 to 20+ individual flow controllers are arranged across a wide conveyor. The FCV is a 1″ electronically controlled needle valve that is perfect for controlling the flow of various liquids and gases for processes just like this.
