Paper Thickness Control in Manufacturing

The process of controlling paper thickness is made is significantly easier with the addition of a Proportion-Air QB3 and an ultrasonic sensor.

In this drawing, white water (white paper fiber and water mixture) is sprayed on a screen. An ultrasonic sensor is constantly measuring the thickness of the paper and relaying this information to the PLC or controller. The PLC controller then commands the QB3, increasing or decreasing pressure to control water flow through the spray nozzle. The thickness of the paper is determined by the amount of water spray.

Typically, 8 to 20+ individual spray flow controllers are arranged across a wide conveyor.
