Glass, mirrors, optics and lens polishing can be performed electro-pneumatically with excellent results. This sketch shows a QB3 controlling pressure to an air cylinder to apply force to a lapping machine to polish a mirror.
Tight control of pressure is important in this application and that is why Proportion-Air’s closed-loop electronic regulator was chosen. The analog monitor output of the QB3 was available on pin five of the main connector and used for data acquisition back to the controller. This provided a constant analog signal referencing exact pressure being applied.
The QB3 reacts very quickly to any changes or bumps encountered during the polishing process. This makes it ideal for very sensitive force control applications like this.
