Monday July 14, 2014 – We arrived in Johannesburg South Africa Sunday evening at 5:15 after a 15.5 hour flight from Atlanta, GA. That was an all-time flight time record for Chris Robbins and I. We are not looking forward to our return flight because of the flight length.
Neither Chris nor I have ever been south of the equator. It is interesting to experience winter in July! I must say though that the winter here is not like winter in central Indiana. It was sunny and warm today and probably around 70 degrees. It gets cold only at night. I can easily get used to this type of winter.
Johannesburg is 6 hours ahead of Indiana time and jet lag is always a concern when flying to a time zone ahead of the home time zone. I did not have any adjustment issues this time since we arrived late in the day and I was able to stay up until 9 p.m. and slept well.
Tuesday July 15, 2014 – We got to meet the team at FCE Technical Services and work with them for the day. Tuesday evening Loraine Lundall and his wife took us to dinner. The meal was excellent. We are in awe of the beauty of this area of South Africa. The sun has shone brightly each day and the weather has been perfect. The sunsets and sunrises here are spectacular and, the plant life and flowers are beautiful. Palm trees, aloe plants, rubber trees and century plants are common. Chris and I agreed that the climate here reminded us of the area around Sun River, Oregon.
