In this press machine force control application, a Proportion-Air FCV controls the deceleration of two cylinders with a 15,000 lb. platen attached. Numerous industries employ press control force applications and often require the use of pneumatics. The FCV is perfect for this process because of its simplicity and high flow capability.
As the platen is lowered, the proximity switch sends a signal to a controller, which then controls the FCV. The FCV meters the air flow during the last 3” of stroke to eliminate platen bounce. These presses are manufactured for food grade processes, which make the use of pneumatics much more advantageous than hydraulics.
With a Cv of 19 SCFM and linear position control of the needle valve, the FCV offers a smooth and consistent response to control platen force.
