Medical Stent Coating

Medical stents and other biomedical devices are almost always coated with some type of polymer or drug coating. The purpose of stent coating is to protect the device from corrosion, protect against complications such as tissue trauma, infection or to coat with a slow release medication.

This application sketch shows a QB3 (electronically controlled pneumatic pressure regulator) precisely regulating vacuum in the coating chamber. Three different specialized proportional regulators are being used to control pressure on top of pressure chambers to precisely control the dispensing and dosing of the medication. A QPV1 is shown controlling pressure to an ultrasonic nozzle that atomizes the liquid media.

All three processes in this drawing are controlled with Proportion-Air products working in sync to coat stents accurately and repeatably.
